Recent Milestones (2025-26):

In the financial year 2025–26, BLW achieved a historic milestone, surpassing all previous records with an all-time high production of 572 locomotives. BLW produced approx.        1.9 locomotives per available working day. Total locomotive production is approx. 20% higher than previous FY.

It is noteworthy that the production of 558 electric locomotives is also at an all-time high, an 18% increase over the previous year and approx. 1% higher than target of 553 electric locomotives.

Locomotive Production (Last 10 Years): 

Since its inception, BLW have manufactured 11299 locomotives (all types) tillApril’2026.Thisincludes 5031 ALCO, 2467 HHP&2964Electricfor Indian Railways and 182 Export &646diesel locomotives for Non Railway Domestic Customers.

Production Plan: (2026–27)

A total of 460 electric locomotives, comprising of 218 WAG9H and242 WAP7 (including 166 ‘Amrit Bharat’) locomotives have been planned to manufacture in FY 2026–27 against Railway Board target.

Future Plan FY 2026-27:

In accordance with the Railway Board's directive, the manufacturing target for FY 2027-28 is set at 226 electric locomotives. This includes 120 WAG9H and 106 WAP7 variants.

Further, Railway board has directed to undertake the POH of diesel and Electric locomotive at BLW. The year-wise POH plan up to FY 2029-30 is under:
