Organizational Strength

Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) is a premier locomotive manufacturing unit of Indian Railways, capable of producing locomotives with a wide range of horsepower—from 1350 HP to 6000 HP.

The facilities at BLW are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, tools, and technologies required for manufacturing high-quality locomotives.

In line with Indian Railways' policy of 100% electrification, BLW now manufactures electric locomotives for IR and also domestic and export requirements of diesel locomotives.

State of the art design and manufacturing facility to manufacture Locomotives for meeting transportation needs of Indian Railways and Non-Railway Customers (NRC) & Export.

Maintenance support is provided through the supply of spares to Zonal Railways, Non-Railway Customers, and export clients as per demand.

Unbeatable trail-blazing track record in providing cost-effective, eco-friendly and reliable solutions to ever increasing transportation needs for over six decades

Fully geared to meet specific transportation needs by putting Price - Value - Technology equation perfectly right.

A large base of delighted customers among many countries viz. Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Tanzania, Angola, Mozambique to name a few, bearing testimony to product leadership in its category.

BLW has an advanceRegional Welding Research Institute, capable of certifying welders for Indian Railways.

It also serves as a nodal center for the ‘Rail Kaushal Vikas’ programme of Indian Railways.

BLW also has a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The organisation has implemented various measures to reduce its carbon footprint such as the installation of roof mounted grid connected solar power plants, rainwater harvesting systems, and energy-efficient lighting.

BLW has also undertaken tree-planting drives and waste management initiatives to promote a clean and green environment. BLW has approx. 40% green area of its total area. Presently, BLW township area has more than 1.2 lakh small & big trees. Every year thousands of tree plantations are devotedly done.

BLW is certified under ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, covering integrated Quality, Environment, and Health & Safety Management Systems. These efforts ensure that pollution levels—whether water, air, exhaust emissions or hazardous waste—remain well within prescribed limits.

BLW has achieved certificationof ISO 50001, for Energy Management, ISO 3834 for Fusion Welding of Metallic Materials, NABL Accreditation for laboratory, 5S Workplace Management System and IRIS for efficient and transparent System for the activities of Design & Development and Manufacturing of Locos.
